How do I change the language I’m learning from?
To change the source (help) language, go to the settings menu in the top left hand corner of the uTalk menu screen and select the language you want to learn from.
Can I learn more than one language with this app?
No – each uTalk app teaches only one language. If you would like to learn another language, you will have to download the uTalk app for that particular language.
How does the points system work?
You can score a maximum of 50 points on an Easy Game, 100 on the Easy+ Game and 150 on a Hard Game, making a maximum of 300 points per topic and 2700 points overall. You can play the games as many times as you like. The app will remember your highest score for each game, so if you replay a game and score one point less, your overall score will not be affected.
I have an iPad 2 - there is no sound coming from my app!
There are no volume controls on the app itself so this needs to be changed on the iPad. There is a little toggle above the volume switch on the left hand side of the iPad - this is a mute toggle. Please ensure that it is switched off and the volume controls are to a reasonable level. Please relaunch the app and try again.
Can I reset my scores?
Yes – go to the settings menu in the top left hand corner of the uTalk screen and select the score reset option (this shows your current score next to an arrow pointing to 0). uTalk will then ask you to confirm that you want to reset your score.
How do I operate the recording section?
To record your own voice, you’ll need a microphone. The iPod Touch doesn’t have an internal microphone, however you can still record your voice using a combined microphone and earphone set such as Apple's "Earphones with Remote and Mic" You can record your voice in the word practice section of any topic by clicking on the microphone button to the right of the picture.
How do I control the volume?
You can adjust the sound on uTalk by going to the settings menu in the top left hand corner of the screen, then dragging the volume bar to the required level. If you have an iPod Touch, you can also use the volume controls on the left hand side of the phone to control the volume at any time. If you can’t hear any sound from your iPhone or iPod Touch, please check the following:
- If you have a mute switch, make sure it is turned off
- If there are headphones plugged into the device, sound will be redirected through them rather than the built-in speaker. Make sure that the headphones are firmly plugged in.
- Try restarting your iPhone. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn the iPhone on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
