uTalk uses the device volume setting. Please make sure that the device volume is not muted and set to a reasonable level. To do this, check the following:
1. The side switch on the edge of your device is often configured as a mute switch. Ensure that this side switch is turned off. You should not be able to see the orange dot/tab. Note: iPod Touch does not have a physical side switch.
2. Turn up the device volume using the physical volume buttons on the side of your device. When doing this you should see the speaker symbol on the screen with a number of white pips increasing underneath.
3. Some devices have their physical volume buttons configured to adjust the ringer and alert volume rather than the device volume. If this is the case the word ‘ringer’ will appear above the speaker symbol when changing the volume and the device volume will not be affected. Play a piece of media from the Music or YouTube apps to check the device volume. If the device volume is low when playing media, turn it up using the on screen sliders.
4. If there are headphones plugged into the device, sound will be redirected through them rather than the built-in speaker. Make sure that the headphones are firmly plugged in.
5. Try restarting your device. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off your device. To turn the device on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
6. Lastly please try deleting the app and re-installing it from the App Store. Note: This will erase all progress and scores.
To change the source (help) language, go to the settings menu in the top right hand corner of the uTalk menu screen and select the language you want your help to be in from the list of available languages.

Each uTalk app teaches only one language. If you would like to learn another language, the uTalk app for that particular language is available for purchase from the App Store.

Currently our uTalk App is the only app we have available in any level. However, we do have a large selection of CD-ROMs and DVDs in a range of languages and levels that you can use to continue your learning on your computer. You can find more detail about these products by visiting our online store. Please be aware that the uTalk app covers the equivalent content to our ‘Talk Now’ product.
Once you have downloaded our uTalk app onto your device you can use it offline. You only need an Internet connection when you first download it onto your device and for any future updates.
You can score a maximum of 50 points on an Easy Game, 100 on the Easy+ Game and 150 on a Hard Game, making a maximum of 300 points per topic and 2700 points overall. You can play the games as many times as you like. The app will remember your highest score for each game; so if you replay a game and score one point less your overall score will not be affected.
Yes - in order to reset the scores, you will need to add a new user and delete the old user profile. This can be done from the settings section, which is accessible from the top right hand corner of the uTalk menu screen.
To record your own voice, you will need a microphone. Older models of the iPod Touch do not have an internal microphone, however the more recent models have a microphone built in. If this is not the case you can still record your voice using a combined microphone and earphone set such as Apple’s “Earphones with Remote and Mic”. You can record your voice in the word practice section of any topic by clicking on the microphone button to the right of the picture.
