Listen! English (British)
LEARNING English is all about practice. Listen! trains your ear and tests your language skills with fun, interactive exercises based on conversations, situations and stories. Listen! teaches you English without seeing the speaker, so it really challenges your listening skills – once you’ve completed the program, you will be confident speaking English – even over the phone!
Will it work for me?
To use Listen! you’ll need a fair knowledge of English. All the questions in the program are in English, but you don’t need to know every word before you start. Listen for key words that you already know and pick up new words as you play. It’s perfect for listening practice.
What will I learn?
Listen! has 20 different activities to help you to understand English and improve your listening as well as your vocabulary. The program plays you scenarios and phrases you’re likely to hear while travelling, so you’ll know what to say whether you’re at the airport, in a bank or at a dinner party.
Each activity focuses on a different area of the language you’re learning. You’ll practise following directions, talking about lifestyles and activities, what to say at a social gathering, and even specific vocabulary such as useful car parts.

How does it work?
Listen to English on it’s own. Understanding the language without seeing someone’s facial expressions and gestures is great practice for understanding it anywhere – especially on the telephone.
Listen for key words. Hear dialogues and descriptions, then pick out the correct responses, listening again if you need to. The material is designed to keep you interested so it features useful everyday situations and even a story about a devious smuggler!
When you’ve finished the activities, try the quiz. You can choose to have the written questions covered or uncovered, so that you can test your listening skills or your reading.
Earn points for correct answers. Once you have enough points, you’ll be able to print out an award certificate!
Start talking! One of the hardest things to do is to speak the language when prompted, so this program gets you to record your own answers to questions and compare them to the answers of a native speaker. Once you can do well in the recording quiz, you’ll know that you have mastered the material.
