This error usually occurs if your sound card driver has been corrupted or if it has not been installed. You will need to re-install the driver.

If you have an installation disc for the sound card, simply re-install the driver from that disc. If you don’t, you will need to find out your driver information.

To find your driver information:

• Click ‘Start’,
• Right-click ‘My Computer’ and then select ‘Properties’.
• Select the ‘Hardware’ tab
• Click on ‘Device Manager’. Any missing or corrupt device is marked with a big yellow question mark.

Once you have found the faulty sound card, note down its details. You will then be able to contact the manufacturer and request a new driver. (It should usually be available on the manufacturer’s website.)
